The Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources discussed with the new Syrian authorities issues of cooperation in the energy sector, including laying an oil pipeline from the neighboring country, announced the head of the Turkish Ministry of Energy, Alparslan Bayraktar.

"There are many topics - from laying an oil pipeline from Syria to Turkey and connecting it with our Iraq-Turkey oil pipeline to transporting gas from Qatar to Turkey and Europe via Syria," the newspaper quoted the minister as saying.

In the early 2000s, daily oil production in Syria was 600,000 barrels. “Now the volumes have fallen to 30,000 barrels. "Syria's potential must be incorporated into the economy," the minister said. According to him, Syrian oil could be supplied to other countries or to refineries in Turkey, in particular the Mediterranean port of Ceyhan.

It was previously reported that representatives of the Turkish Energy Ministry may travel to Syria at the end of this week to study its energy infrastructure and develop joint projects with the new authorities.
