Brazil has set the priorities of its BRICS presidency - 1

The administration of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has outlined 5 main policy areas for the republic's presidency of the BRICS in 2025, including the community's work on regulating artificial intelligence (AI) around the world. This was reported by the G1 portal.

The governance of AI, according to Brazilian authorities, must be responsible and inclusive, the portal writes. Another priority for Brazil will be the promotion of trade and investment between the countries of the community through the development of new means of payment. As a third area, Brazil also proposes to focus on discussing possible changes in the structure of financing needed to combat climate change.

BRICS assistance for cooperation between countries of the global South, especially in the field of health, has been identified by Brazilian authorities as the fourth priority. The Brazilian authorities also consider it necessary to focus on the institutional strengthening of the BRICS bloc, taking into account the accession of new countries to the community as partners.

Brazil became the chairman of BRICS on January 1. In 2024, the association was led by Russia; the key event during its chairmanship was the summit in Kazan on October 22-24, at which it was decided to create a category of partner countries. The first partners were Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan. Indonesia was also initially listed as a BRICS partner, but on January 6, the Brazilian authorities announced that the country had become a full member of the community. On January 17, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry announced the accession of Nigeria to BRICS as a partner.
