The US Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security has issued Nvidia a license to sell H20 chips to China, the Financial Times reported, citing sources.
According to them, the decision to issue a license was made after a meeting between Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Wednesday.
Nvidia created this model of chips specifically for the Chinese market so that the products would meet the criteria for microchip export restrictions imposed by the administration of Joe Biden, who was then US president. It is noted that the lifting of supply restrictions has become a subject of dispute among representatives of US security services, concerned about the situation.
In early April, US authorities informed Nvidia that the company would no longer be able to supply H20 chips for artificial intelligence technologies to China without a special license. Washington explained the new requirement by saying that “the products can be used in supercomputers“.
