The Presidency after the Rejected Referendum: This Parliament Has No Political Will to Hear the Citizens - 1

This Parliament Has No Political Will to Hear the Voice of the Citizens. This was stated by the Head of State's Press Secretariat in response to questions regarding the invitation of a representative of the presidential institution to present to the National Assembly the Head of State's Proposal to Hold a National Referendum, BTA reports.

The National Assembly Had Eight Months to Get to Know the Reasons for the President's Proposal to Hold a National Referendum and to Implement the Law, the Institution Emphasizes.

Earlier today, the Speaker of the Parliament Raya Nazaryan explained that from 8:00 a.m. on the “Dondukov“ 2 have been notified that the proposal will be considered and someone must present the reasons. If no one presents them, we will proceed to the debates, she indicated. After that, there were several breaks, but a representative of the institution never appeared in the parliament.

After the session resumed after the first break, Raya Nazaryan announced that she had made several more attempts to contact them, but no one answered. Apart from May, these reasons are public and everyone is familiar with them, she noted. According to her, no one else can present the reasons, except the submitter.

The parliament rejected President Rumen Radev's proposal to hold a national referendum with the question: “Do you agree that Bulgaria should introduce the European currency “euro“ in 2026?“. After a revote, the Speaker of the National Assembly Raya Nazaryan announced that the parliament's decision to reject the referendum proposal would be published in the "State Gazette".

On May 23, President Rumen Radev referred the matter to the Constitutional Court for a mandatory interpretation of the Constitution and declaring null and void the refusal of the then Speaker of the Parliament Natalia Kiselova to submit for consideration by the National Assembly the proposal to hold a national referendum with the question "Do you agree that Bulgaria should introduce the single European currency "euro" in 2026?". On May 13, Natalia Kiselova issued an order, by which she returned the president's proposal requesting a national referendum as inadmissible. On June 10, the Constitutional Court admitted for consideration part of President Rumen Radev's request in connection with Natalia Kiselova's decision.
