The government's resignation was a matter of time. This was commented by the chairman of "We Continue the Change" Assen Vassilev commented on the show "Panorama".
According to him, the consequences of the mass protests and the government's resignation were a logical reaction to the citizens' dissatisfaction.
„It was logical after Borisov first said that he was withdrawing the budget, the next day he said that he was not withdrawing it and then on December 1, a huge protest took place in Sofia and in 20 cities in the country. From then on, it was clear that the protest that demanded the government's resignation would lead to the government's resignation. It was a matter of time. After the protest on December 10, the government quite wisely resigned, because it would have led to a much greater escalation“, commented Asen Vassilev.
Vassilev also commented on the accusations that chaos is being unleashed in this way.
“In reality, neither I nor my colleagues from the PP-DB are under the illusion that all the people in the square are there because of us. These people are in the square because they do not want the Borisov and Peevski model of governance to continue. We have been watching this model of governance for a long time. The model in which institutions wait for instructions by phone. This is the model in which an ordinary MP, such as Mr. Borisov, orders the prime minister what to do and the prime minister listens to him, which is even worse," said the chairman of the PP-DB.
In his words, this is a model of governance in which a judicial system that carries out orders is seen.
„ This is a model in which if a businessman expresses criticism of the government, 10 inspectors descend on him and try to literally steal his business. This is a model of governance in which if people vote wrongly, they have no firewood“, said Asen Vassilev.
Regarding the fact that there will be no new budget, Vassilev explained that the reason for this began back in October, when the government did not listen to employers, then tried to introduce a budget on the fast track.
“Then it withdrew it, then it did not withdraw it. Then it introduced a new budget, which to a large extent simply postponed unpopular measures, but its philosophy was the same - taxes will be raised. And it will delve deeper into the pockets of Bulgarian citizens in order to feed certain power structures and fill their coffers“.
He explained that what is now ahead is that the country will have a mandatory law for the first three months. According to him, there is no problem that it is not in euros.
„There is absolutely no problem with the budget being in leva. The Euro Law states that everything that is in leva, regardless of which law, is converted at the official exchange rate of the Bulgarian National Bank. Bulgaria is entering the eurozone and there will be no problems with that“, pointed out Assen Vassilev.
On the topic of price and competition control, Vassilev stated that in fact the government does not control speculation, but the Competition Protection Commission and the Consumer Protection Commission.
According to him, the next task is to hold fair elections.
„Yes, the Electoral Code can be changed and we want machine voting to return. Yes, changes can be made. Maybe there will be a Minister of Interior who will actually make the elections fairer, and not allow vote buying to the extent that we saw before the Constitutional Court, when they opened the bags, a whole new party entered parliament. But the way to protect the elections, we showed it in Pazardzhik - to have observers in every section, to have people with phones to film the outrages, to broadcast them in real time on the Internet," said Vassilev.
He also commented on the role of President Rumen Radev.
„We see that the president is fulfilling the role that the Constitution gives him – to conduct consultations, to go through the mandates, and then to appoint a caretaker cabinet. There is no clarity about a possible party, if there is one. We have firmly stated that Bulgaria should move towards Europe, not to the East,“, he commented.
