Gyurov on Tsitelkov: I take responsibility for this choice. He was the right person to hold fair elections - 1

"Fair elections are truly a cause. We stand behind this cause. When I invited Stoil Tsitelkov to be Deputy Prime Minister for fair elections, I relied on his expertise and his experience in holding and monitoring elections in many countries. I do not have a criminal record and cannot check things that the Minister of Internal Affairs can do. I trusted that everyone who enters this cabinet comes with a clear conscience. Today I take responsibility for this choice". This was said by the acting Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov after a meeting with students, quoted by Dariknews.bg.
"I see how people attack Mr. Tsitselkov, no one attacks him for his lack of experience, it is clear where the attack is aimed - it is aimed at the cabinet and at being able to hold fair elections. For us, there is something much more important than the political battle and more important than who will derive short-term dividends from this act. After talking with Stoil, we decided that this was the right decision in order to protect the voice of the people and to protect the trust in the government's efforts to create conditions for fair elections," the acting prime minister also pointed out.

"I thank him for his readiness and responsibility", Gyurov also said.

"He was the right person for this task, I expected you to judge us by our work, but Mr. Tsitelkov was not given this opportunity", the acting prime minister added.

"It was extremely important for me that one of the first meetings in the Council of Ministers be with the people whose voices are not heard, the young people who do not vote, who feel alienated from the civil process, but who in recent days have shown their civic activity and pointed out the things they disagree with. These people have hope, but also very high expectations," Gyurov said.

The Prime Minister met with representatives of the students who participated in the protests in December 2025. The meeting was requested by them themselves.
