Bulgaria is not a target of the conflict in the Middle East. This was said in "The Day Begins with Georgi Lyubenov" by the president in the period 2012-2017 Rosen Plevneliev.
He commented on the current international situation around Iran and the consequences for Bulgaria.
In connection with the information about the suspended flights from Dubai, Plevneliev called on Bulgarian citizens to be calm.
„Let Bulgarian citizens be calm. We are not at war, we are not a target and we will not be. It will be calm here, missiles and bombs will not fall here, nor drones. Bulgaria has made all the wise and important decisions. When it joined the European Union and NATO, this is the strongest defense alliance on the planet and it will protect us.“
For his part, he recalled the terrorist attack in 2012 at the “Sarafovo“ airport.
“At Sarafovo airport, unfortunately, six tourists from Israel and one Bulgarian citizen lost their lives. Our services, together with partners around the world, saw, conducted an incredible investigation. We reached the university in Lebanon, where the fake passports were issued. We saw the three who are the initiators, the perpetrators. We declared the military wing of Hezbollah a terrorist organization. And we knew that the ayatollahs' regime was behind it, financing and motivating such terrorist organizations to commit terrorist acts.“
He emphasizes that the international situation is complicated, but Bulgaria is protected:
„Let it be clear, there is no war and there will be no war for Bulgarian citizens. But, unfortunately, all over the world we are witnesses to how this misanthropic regime has organized, including on our territory, terrorist attacks.“
He predicts that the war in the Middle East will last weeks, but not a year.
„The logic is very elementary. If it lasts more than two months, Trump will lose the midterm elections. If he loses the midterm elections, he loses everything. He loses everything…“
