Over 2 tons of yogurt and yoghurt and more than 4,200 liters of ayran from a dairy in a village in Silistra will be destroyed by order of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA), the agency's press center announced.
Yogurt and yoghurt without identification markings certifying the batch and expiration date were found in a refrigerator. Yogurt buckets with a total weight of 750 kg and nearly 17,000 bottles of ayran with future production dates and a correspondingly manipulated shelf life were also found. The inspection was carried out on April 24 this year, and the date of production of the ayran was April 25 this year. According to the date on the caps of the yogurt, it was produced on May 3 of this year.
The violations at the dairy in Silistra were discovered by inspectors from Dobrich. The Bulgarian Food Safety Authority continues to apply the principle of so-called cross-checks, in which employees from one region work in another region of the country. In this way, local dependencies and attempts to put pressure on the control bodies are avoided.
