We managed to raise the topic related to the judiciary and the necessary reforms in it. This is the second most important topic, if I refer to a survey by a sociological agency from March – the first topic was inflation and prices, the socio-economic situation, and the second – with about 39% – was anti-corruption and reform in the judiciary. I have been in “Justice for Everyone“ since 2017, when 6% of people were interested in this issue. There were many reasons for this, there were also many protests over the years. We raised these questions sequentially – some were accepted, others were not. We expect the work of the legal committee to be fruitful now, and that our colleague lawyer Velislav Velichkov, who became an MP, will also participate in it. This was announced to Lili Marinkova in the studio “FACTS“ and the program “Conversation“ by lawyer Emil Georgiev from “Justice for Everyone“.
“I believe that the word “integrity“ is understood by everyone who speaks Bulgarian. Most likely, there is a feeling of a lack of it. However, the political majority must clarify what it means when it talks about judicial reform. It is still not clear what exactly this means in terms of processes in Bulgaria, and the topic is presented rather superficially in the program of “Progressive Bulgaria“, the guest added.
“It is also not clear how the election of constitutional judges will be made, how the independence of bodies such as the SJC will be guaranteed, including the Inspectorate to the SJC, which is serving a third term, but without the right to a second. We have now also heard opinions that the rapid work of the parliament, given the election of the speaker of the parliament, is something like a return to “normality“. We have a large majority that will probably choose and impose decisions. This disciplinary effect of the majority in the parliament is felt. We will see how the process will continue, including the hearings and the actual actions, because at the moment there are many questions and ambiguities“, said lawyer Georgiev.
