„Progressive Bulgaria“ is open to negotiations on determining the composition of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) with all parliamentaryly represented forces that want to distance themselves from the Borisov – Peevski model. This was stated to journalists in Pernik by the chairman of the parliamentary group of „Progressive Bulgaria“ Petar Vitanov, BTA reports.
As one of the main tasks, Vitanov indicated the implementation of real judicial reform. He also commented on the upcoming election of members of the SJC.
„The procedures and initiative proposals ended on Friday. There are many non-governmental organizations that have proposed certain candidates. The members of parliament, according to the rules we adopted, have the right to propose members within two weeks. I believe that with these parties that are not part of the model, we can come to an agreement on specific names“, said Vitanov.
According to him, the election of a new Supreme Judicial Council is only the first step on the path to reform in the judicial system.
„The Law on the Judiciary, attestation, secondment, properties is forthcoming – all of which represents a significant problem for the judicial system and which led to distortions there“, he pointed out.
Vitanov stated that it is necessary to overcome the practices that led to the appointments of close friends and relatives in the judicial system, which, in his opinion, contribute to its encapsulation and distortion.
“Those who have a desire for true judicial reform, who have set it as a supreme goal and make sense of their existence with this, have the opportunity to prove it now“, said the MP.
Vitanov was in Pernik, where, in his capacity as regional coordinator, he attended the establishment of a municipal structure of “Progressive Bulgaria“. MP Martin Zhlyabinkov was elected municipal coordinator.
