The first prison without bars opens its doors in our country. It was built under the Norwegian Financial Mechanism for BGN 42 million, is located in the village of Samoranovo in Dupni, and is part of a long-term cooperation program, bTV reported.
The prison has eight separate buildings. Each cell is for two inmates, with a separate bathroom. For the first time, a Bulgarian prison has a staff training center.
Today at the final conference, the Minister of Justice Maria Pavlova said that, above all, she thanked the skeptics who did not believe that in 1 year and 4 months prison could be a fact.
„When one looks at things from the outside, one sees the changes. And the topics we are discussing now, we couldn't discuss 5 years ago because things are evolving. Now I want to talk like this again in 5 years. Realize that you are changing the rules of the game,”, commented Kim Eckhaugen, Director of International Directorate at Norwegian Service.
„The conditions in the places of deprivation of liberty both for the officials themselves, for the prisoners, and for the public. No one is insured that they cannot get there at some point. And our main role is for those people who for one reason or another ended up there – let's work with them and prepare them for life in freedom," commented Ivaylo Yordanov, chief director of the "Execution of Sentences" Directorate.
