Air Squadron 28 is already flying to Beirut to evacuate the Bulgarians from Lebanon. A check on the website flightradar24.com shows that the government Airbus took off from Sofia in the direction of Beirut around 13:00.
An emergency meeting was held this morning with Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev. It became clear that there will be on board the plane the employees of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry who will accompany the first group of evacuated Bulgarian citizens.
Our compatriots in Lebanon will be evacuated by two flights of the government plane, predicted earlier the Acting Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov in Varna.
According to Zapryanov, representatives of the armed forces are also involved in the preparations for the repatriation of our compatriots. There is coordination at the international level, as well as at the NATO level, since the implementation of such flights is complex. The most important thing is for the evacuation to be safe, the minister stressed. He added that the armed forces have so far not received the task of flying to Lebanon with military aircraft.
The government press service previously informed that there are no Bulgarians returning on the organized flight who have declared a need for accommodation. However, the Ministry of the Interior is ready to provide assistance with its bases. Meanwhile, other options for the evacuation of our compatriots from Beirut continue to be considered.
