The municipal councilors of the capital are meeting in an extraordinary meeting on October 3. They will discuss the granting of a loan of BGN 6 million for transport in Sofia. The proposal is made by the mayor Vasil Terziev.
The report details the reasons for the accumulated liabilities of the two ground transport operators – “Metropolitan motor transport” and “Metropolitan electric transport”.
„One of our main concerns is to strengthen municipal companies and stabilize public transport for the normal functioning of the city and the convenience of citizens. We have stated it. I count on my fellow municipal councilors from all political parties to prove it now by supporting the mayor's proposal. At the moment, there is a real risk that the public transport in Sofia will stop after mid-October, and with this 6 million loan we are securing it until the end of the year, commented the chairman of SOS Tsvetomir Petrov.
The funds will be distributed as follows: BGN 1 million for “Metropolitan electric transport” EAD and BGN 5 million for “Metropolitan transportation” EAD. Money will be provided from the budget of the Capital Municipality in the part of own tax revenues, where permanent over-execution was found for the first eight months from the beginning of the year.
Last week, the accounts of “Stolichin autotransport“ were frozen. About BGN 20 million are his debts, accumulated over the years.
