After his death in the city of Coburg in 1948, the body Tsar Ferdinand I was laid to rest in the crypt of the Catholic church "St. Augustine" in the same city, according to the "Tsar Boris and Tsarina Joanna".
In the year of his death, the tsar's burial in his second homeland, Bulgaria, was completely impossible in view of the political situation in our country and the post-war period throughout Europe, despite his great desire and that of his relatives.
After the democratic changes, several initiative committees were created, whose efforts in this direction were not crowned with success, despite the good intentions of their organizers.
Today's conditions of democracy and respect for history allow the mortal remains of King Ferdinand to be laid to rest in the family crypt of his beloved palace “Crow" in Sofia. In this way, the necessary respect will be paid to a long-standing head of state and commander-in-chief, who, despite a number of contradictory assessments of some moments of his administration, has given a lot to the development and modernization of our country.
More details will be given on the eve of the act itself.
