21 public procurements in the Capital Municipality were illegal, they should be stopped immediately. This was announced by the Mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, during a press briefing, a reporter from "Focus" reported.

The inspection was to establish the legality of 24 public contracts, which are worth BGN 204 million. Among them were infrastructure facilities, kindergartens, plumbing, selection of supervision, Terziev announced.

"The check found that of the 24 projects that were given, 23 had the problem and 21 were found to be illegal. In addition to illegality, the other identified problems are the presence of restrictive requirements, incomplete public procurement announcement, illegal amendment of the documentation for participation, inconsistency in the information in the announcement and the other documents, change of the conditions of the procedure, delay in the work of the evaluation commissions," said the mayor. .

Terziev said that all public procurements with problems will be stopped: "We will immediately start work on new procedures related to them. They concern projects that are important for the city. It is extremely important to us that they are done right.

Deputy Mayor for Finance in the Metropolitan Municipality, Ivan Vasilev, stated that upon taking office he found a lack of a mechanism to control legality, as well as a risk of abuse of public procurement.

"These 24 orders started in 2022, some of them in 2023", announced Ivan Vasilev. He said that the former mayor Yordanka Fandakova should answer the question of whether there was illegality in some of these public procurements.

Stolichna municipality took actions to prepare a methodology for determining the estimated value by conducting market research and consultations. The Deputy Mayor for Finance stated that in the future it is very important that more companies participate in public procurement tenders, as this would increase the quality of project implementation.
