President Yotova: The example of the Apostle of Freedom is an example of duty and honor - 1

Levski believed in the creative power of the Bulgarian people, I believe too, because with this power great goals can be achieved. This was stated by President Iliana Yotova at the memorial ceremony in Sofia on the occasion of the 153rd anniversary of the death of the Apostle of Freedom Vasil Levski, reported by BTA.

First of all, let us regain confidence in ourselves, in statehood. In the fact that we can have institutions that we can trust, that take care of us, that preach and give respect and trust, the president also said. In her words, this is the common cause today. Then, as in the past - a state of law and equality, she added. A state that is fair to all Bulgarian citizens, because today the question is not whose side you are on, but whether you are on the side of justice, Yotova said.

The Bulgarian Renaissance taught us that no one can pave the path alone and we can only move forward if we are together, said the president. "With joint efforts to think about the Fatherland and our family. The Bulgarian Renaissance taught us strength and will, togetherness. Today they suggest that everyone is for themselves, that everyone should not trust their neighbor. To be distrustful and alienated, that our national virtues, which preserved us as a people, as a state, are obsolete. To these people I will say in a loud voice: the foundations of the Bulgarian national spirit are very strong", the head of state also said and added that nothing can break them.

The Bulgarian people have their glorious history. They pass on glory and greatness from generation to generation. The Bulgarian national ideal has long been outlined and we are faithful to it. The example of the Apostle of Freedom is an example of duty and honor, said Yotova.

To cope on our own, to be together, to use the energy we have as a people to move forward - this is Vasil Levski's testament, both to those to whom he told the great dream of freedom, and to us, today's contemporaries, said the president.

According to the president, we need to trust each other a little more. "To have trust. To look in one direction. Let us be absorbed in one cause and then we will easily reach the high Bulgarian peaks, that we will even surpass them", said Iliyana Yotova.

"Ivan Vazov writes that he was sent by fate to create the future. And he, the deacon, the Apostle of freedom, turned back time to resurrect Bulgaria. So that Bulgaria would rise above the centuries as a state of freedom, equality and legality", pointed out Yotova. "In this holy cause, in this battle, Levski was not alone, the president noted. Thousands of like-minded people from all over our native lands came to him. They simply wanted to touch him. Proud and independent Bulgarians. Let us remember them today, too," the president added.

Before the memorial ceremony, the Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia Daniil celebrated a memorial service for the 153rd anniversary of the death of Vasil Levski in the capital's church "St. Sofia - Wisdom of God."
