Nikolay Vassilev: What's wrong with the 2025 budget? Who doesn't have enough money? - 1

Service governments are basically a spare tire. And I am one of those people who, seeing the experience of the Transition, think that it is better not to have such an institution in our Constitution. And I will answer about the budget in two parts. It depends on what this cabinet and the new Minister of Finance intend to do. This was said by the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Transport and State Administration and Administrative Reform in three consecutive governments Nikolay Vassilev in the program "Bulgaria, Europe and the World" on Radio FOCUS.

"If he happens to surprise us positively and wants to introduce a reformist budget that is different and the exact opposite of all the budgets from the last 5 years, then I will support him in doing so and having it adopted. If he does the opposite, which is even more likely, if he is going to introduce a budget that is the same as these budgets from the last 5 years, even worse, then I will be one of the people who will say that there is no need for a caretaker government and an outgoing parliament to vote on a "wedding budget", which will only make the country worse than before," he also said.

According to former Deputy Prime Minister Nikolay Vassilev, the tasks before the caretaker government include launching concession procedures for highways, airports, ports, water and sanitation facilities, listing state-owned companies on the stock exchange, and initiating reforms in every sphere, in absolutely all ministries and sectors.

As for whether the caretaker government should prepare a budget for 2026, because many public organizations are warning that they are facing bankruptcy, Vassilev commented:

What's so bad about the 2025 budget? Who doesn't have enough money? Where do you see the end of this thing? I'll tell you where - its end is seen in the bankruptcy of the state. That's how it was under Videnov. Let me just remind you that under Videnov, there was the greatest impoverishment in the history of the nation for the last 100 years. So I do not share the opinion of any organizations or others that they wanted even more money from 2025. For me, sometimes a person should be grateful and happy with what they have, after calling the budgets of recent years wasteful and wasteful, not that someone did not have enough money. Another issue is that when there is too much money and it is distributed randomly, it is wasted. There is a lot of money, but it is not for where it is needed, but goes to other areas.
