The policeman, who shot at a car with young people in Pleven, will be brought in as an accused, the prosecutor's office in the city announced at a briefing, quoted by BNT. The incident happened on Wednesday night.
The victims said that they were driving around town when a civilian vehicle crossed their path. There were two men in it who, according to them, behaved aggressively and ordered them to pull over to the side to understand each other. The boys got scared and decided to run when one of the men in the other car pulled out a gun and fired. Later it became clear that the two were policemen.
The officer who fired the shot has not been taken into custody at the discretion of investigators because he turned himself in and is not in danger of absconding or committing another crime.
All involved persons and direct witnesses to the incident were questioned, except for the boy who was shot, as his health did not allow it until now. Both the boys and the officer who fired the shots tested negative for alcohol and drugs. The weapon was handed over voluntarily by the policeman.
The vehicle in which the young people were riding was inspected. Two shell casings were recovered from the scene. The recordings from video surveillance cameras in the area of the accident were taken, and the efforts of the investigators are to review all the cameras along the route of the movement of the two cars. Two expertises will be assigned - ballistic and forensic, which will be carried out in Sofia in order to avoid suspicions of partiality and prejudice.
The main version of the incident is that the two cars collided in Pleven, and the conflict between the youths and the policemen occurred on "Hristo Botev" Blvd. The young people have one explanation, the police officers - another.
The Pleven prosecutor's office commented that the case is being worked on as a priority, and assistance was received from the authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. A representative of the prosecution met with the father of the injured boy and their lawyer. After collecting and evaluating the evidence, we will react according to the law, he also commented.
