Kamelia Neikova: We are not preparing to cancel the machine voting - 1

„Everything is fine with the machine voting. It is categorically not true that the CEC is preparing to cancel the machine voting. The machines have left for the country, we gave permission yesterday and today the sectional election commissions will receive them prepared and installed for the vote tomorrow”.

Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Kamelia Neikova assured this in the bTV studio.

Her comment is about the scandal with the rolls from the local vote in October last year. ITN reported that Vasil Terziev, as the mayor of Sofia, did not comply with the CEC's order to destroy all the rolls of paper that are placed in the voting machines and on which the ballots left over from the local elections are printed. The party suspected interference in the 2 to 1 vote on June 9.

Terziev's team in the Sofia Municipality explained that they received the CEC's instructions, but did not follow them because the rolls of paper for the machines are evidence in the case related to the contestation of Vasil Terziev's election as mayor of Sofia. These rolls are locked together with the mayoral election ballots in general election premises and access to them can only happen after a court decision.

The Chairman of the CEC reminded the voters that they must carry their identity card when they go to vote, otherwise they will not be allowed in.

„You cannot vote with a passport and driver's license. Students can vote at their place of study by presenting an ID card, validated by the semester at the respective educational institution. Those with a current address must have submitted an application to the municipality for voting at their current address 14 days before the elections, Neikova reminded.
