Coalition "The Left!" is ready to participate in a dialogue for the consolidation of left-wing political formations. First steps are already being taken. Now, more than ever, the realized need for partnership and consolidation has a chance to yield results.
This was stated by the leader of the ABV party, which is part of the “Left!”, Rumen Petkov at the National Press Club of BTA in Sliven.
When asked if this was possible to happen under the temporary chairman of the BSP Atanas Zafirov, he answered that “yes”. “I think that if a decisive step in the direction of consolidation is made now, it may be irreversible, it will not be able to be stopped, because this is a process that left-wing people expect”, Petkov also said.
When asked if they are ready to join a broad left-wing coalition in the event of new elections, Rumen Petkov stated that an active dialogue is needed, not just sending invitations. According to him, the reason for the extremely low voter turnout of 34% on June 9 is that some of the socially engaged voters did not vote precisely due to the fact that there is no strong and consolidated left-wing political formation.
„The basis of left-wing socially engaged politics should be peace, and we in Europe, for years now, have been talking about war, about armaments, about solving the problems on the battlefield. Peace, like the consolidation of the left, also has no alternative. And we'll have to talk. Otherwise, we become complicit in the meat grinder in which thousands of people die every day, he added. And he added that the war is not only in Ukraine, but also in the Gaza Strip.
Rumen Petkov added that citizens should be aware of their choices and commented on the co-founder of the new parliamentary party “Velichie” Nikolay Markov. “It is not normal for someone with a conviction, who hid from justice, to be brought into the National Assembly and today he is the moral pillar of society. This person has been convicted, he has an executive order to pay a certain amount to someone, and the Bulgarian state institutions cannot find him for 10 years”, he commented.
Analysis of the past elections and the result of “The Left!“ regionally, Peño Penev also did – leader of the list of the coalition in Sliven region. According to him, the extremely low voter turnout is also due to the fear of people to express their opinion, due to dependencies on local authorities, employers, etc. He added that once again in Slivensko, a “motivated“ voting in the last hours of the election day in the sections with predominant minority groups among the voters.
