A policeman guarding the residence of the President of the Supreme Court of Greece in the Athens suburb of Papagou, was injured that night by a Molotov cocktail thrown by an unknown person, reported the Greek publication “Kathimerini”, quoted by BTA.

The policeman suffered injuries to his face and hand and was admitted to a nearby military hospital.

The fire caused by the bomb destroyed the patrol car parked in front of the residence. Eight firefighters were sent to the scene to extinguish the flames.

No arrests have been made as of this morning. It is not clear whether the attack was aimed at the security or at the President of the Supreme Court, Joanna Klapa.

Greek state television reported that the preliminary investigation is underway.

The attack was immediately condemned by the government. “Our democracy and its pillars, such as the judiciary and its officials, will not be intimidated,” government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said in a statement, wishing the wounded policeman a speedy recovery.
