Parvan Simeonov: Proposing a new electoral system is like putting out a fire with gasoline - 1

Proposing a new an electoral system is like putting out a fire with gasoline. All this led to tension and the emergence of a vicious cycle from which voters withdrew. It is very difficult for someone to regain lost trust. I can only think of two examples – Boyko Borisov and Maya Manolova, when he became an ombudsman.

The sociologist Parvan Simeonov shared this in an interview with NOVA NEWS.

In my opinion, the parties did not get lost between the first and third term, they got lost between the first and third year of incessant elections. I also started to lose myself, and probably the voters too.

From his point of view, politicians have gone too far with their messages like “the other should be gone”, but they have realized that “the other cannot be gone”.

It is very difficult for someone to regain lost trust. I can only think of two examples – Boyko Borisov and Maya Manolova when he became an ombudsman. Confidence in the political process is infused when someone new comes and brings hope, then voter turnout rises, Parvan Simeonov explained.

At the end of the conversation, the sociologist noted that everyone who has traveled in our country and abroad is aware that Bulgaria looks terrible, which makes us “feel terrible”.

However, Simeonov does not consider it necessary to restart the state again, at least because we are not ripe for such general changes, giving an example of the failure of constitutional changes and the fact that our politicians cannot agree on a regular government.< /p>

All this led to tension and the emergence of a vicious cycle from which the voters withdrew. Proposing a new electoral system is like putting out a fire with gasoline, commented the sociologist.

Simeonov expressed the opinion that GERB's plan for a minority government would be difficult to implement. He also believes that confidence among voters could return with the appearance of new faces in politics and added that currently President Radev is in an extremely advantageous role and the time is working for him, as – according to Simeonov – “there is a demand for political power with his profile“.
