"Not one more": Protest in Sofia against domestic violence - 1

Changes in the Law on Domestic Violence and stricter punishments. These are just some of the demands of the protesters who gathered in front of the Courthouse in Sofia, NOVA reported.

Against the background of the latest data on women killed by their partners, for the fifth year in a row the organization “Feminist Mobilizations” organized a protest under the title "Not one more". The official statistics of the state show a constant increase in the number of women who sought protection from domestic violence. According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, these are over 3,600 women for the past year, and their number by the end of July this year is over 2,000. The victims of domestic violence in 2020 are 594, and their number increased to nearly 900 in the past year.

This is also the reason why the people at the protest are demanding effective measures from the state, after just a year ago the National Assembly adopted stricter punishments for the violent, because of the case of Deborah from Stara Zagora.

„We have laws in place, but we see that the institutions fail to react adequately. There must be justice not only for the victims, but also for the families who live with the consequences – "for absolutely every woman in Bulgaria who is in some way subjected to sexual, economic, physical harassment," Shirin Hodzheva from the organization "Feminist Mobilizations" is categorical.
