Last week, a postponed meeting of the Permanent Commission on Demographics was held politics, children and the family, which in the 50th National Assembly is chaired by Kostadin Kostadinov - chairman of "Vazrazhdane" and at the PG of "Revival".
For the location of the postponed meeting, the chairman chose the smallest municipality in Bulgaria - Trekliano. Why exactly did the people's representatives from the commission go there, Kostadinov commented on the social network and this is what he wrote:
"On Thursday, I held a postponed meeting of the Committee on Demographic Policy, Children and the Family in Trekljano. I chose this Kyustendil municipality because it is the smallest in the country - only 450 people live in it. They had only 2 children born last year. The demographic catastrophe has so ravaged this once overpopulated region that not only the people, but also their houses are gone.
On my way back I passed with some of the deputies on the way to Trun. The road is extremely scenic and winds along the river passing through several villages. One of the villages is Kosovo. It was founded in the 18th century by Bulgarian refugees from Kosovo, driven by the Albanians there. Yes, I'm sure many of you don't know, but Bulgarians are the indigenous population of Kosovo - both Albanians and Serbs are immigrants there.
In 1940, there were 849 inhabitants in Kosovo, today their number is exactly 5. Passing through the village, we hardly saw any houses - they literally fell apart, and nature took the remains of their courtyards. Interestingly, the village stretched for almost 4 km. length and there were once 2 bus stops for the intercity buses that passed through several times a day. Now the stops remain, rusted and forgotten, but the people and even their houses are long gone.
I started preparations for the creation of a National Plan for the regeneration and revitalization of the Bulgarian nation. On August 13, the Commission organized a round table on the topic with all leading demographers in Bulgaria. The mandate of this parliament will not be long enough to complete this process, but it has to be started somewhere. We have no time to waste - we must act! We know how, we can and we want to", commented Kostadinov on the social network.
