Certainly Bulgaria is ready to present its candidate for Commissioner, I do not think that these scenarios of us being late and not presenting a candidate will come true.
This is what the first Bulgarian European Commissioner Meglena Kuneva said in the Euronews Primetime studio.
According to Kuneva, among the topics discussed by the politicians for the official cabinet and its ministers is that of the next Bulgarian European Commissioner.
I assume that the political forces, including the president, will conduct talks in this direction. However, I realized that there probably won't be a hearing in the National Assembly because the deputies will be on vacation. If they decide to convene an extraordinary meeting to listen to him – it is a matter of good practice.
Meglena Kuneva explained that portfolios in the European Commission are allocated based on several criteria. The first of them is what the country has had so far and what it has not, so that a balance can be found.
“Bulgaria has never had any of the big and heavy resorts – these are the departments not where there are many funds, but where the European Commission and the Commissioners have the most powers. This is certainly not energy, for example, because this is a relatively new and recent policy and there is another arrangement of relations with a special contract. The most interesting portfolio is, of course, “Competition”, where the Commissioner and the EC have a really big power. “Trade” is another very interesting resource“, Kuneva also noted.
