In the second quarter of 2024, GDP increased by 0 .2% in both the euro area and the EU as a whole, compared to the previous quarter, according to a new report by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Bulgaria's GDP increased by 0.5 percent compared to the first quarter.

The biggest increase in GDP was recorded by Poland (+1.5%), followed by Greece (+1.1%) and the Netherlands (+1.0%). The biggest declines were observed in Ireland (-1.0%), Latvia (-0.9%) and Austria (-0.4%).

In the second quarter of 2024, the number of employed persons increased by 0.2% in the euro area and by 0.1% in the EU.

Employment rose by 0.8% in both the eurozone and the EU, after being +1.0% in the eurozone and +0.9% across the bloc in the first quarter of 2024.
Ireland, Lithuania (both +1.1%) and Estonia (+0.8%) recorded the largest growth in employment of individuals compared to the previous quarter. The largest decrease in employment was reported in Romania (-0.5%) and Finland (-0.4%).

Eurostat estimates that in the second quarter of 2024, 218.6 million people were employed in the EU, of which 170.1 million were in the euro area.
