"The shaft was secured with fence panels and piled construction materials that were apparently removed to allow a person to fall into it. There is no way to move around the area and fall. Before the holidays around September 22, the opening of the shaft was secured, but apparently someone deliberately removed the paneling and construction materials", commented engineer Krastev.
He explained that the shaft is part of the sewerage network, part of the Southern Bypass Collector, which is being built along Blvd. "Al. Stamboliyski".
"Now we will take measures again and secure the mine with information signs, red tapes, construction materials,", Engineer Krastev also pointed out.
He expressed his condolences to the family of the dead cyclist.
In front of Radio Plovdiv, the Director of Water and Sewerage Eng. Anton Galabov recalled that the construction of the Southern Bypass Collector is being carried out under the OP "Environment" by a consortium of 3 companies.
"They are jointly responsible for overall safety and health implementation and coordination. The program's governing body has requested an emergency incident report. It happened on an asphalted section, which was being prepared for the release of traffic," said Engineer Galabov.
He suggested that it is possible that the cyclist took a curious look at what was in the shaft and that is how the tragic accident happened.
In his words, it is possible that the shaft was not secured according to the rules.
The Municipality of Plovdiv has nothing to do with the case. Waterworks - Plovdiv, is the contractor of the project for the Southern bypass collector, other companies are building and supervising the site, explained the mayor of the "Southern" Atanas Kunchev.
In this case, the District Prosecutor's Office - Plovdiv is monitoring pre-trial proceedings for causing death by negligence. The deadline for completing the investigation is two months.
