Petar Mutafchiev: We have proposed measures to ease traffic on the border with Romania - 1

There is a problem and it is with pay of public transport workers, there is a shortage of drivers, they are not satisfied with their wages. Obviously, this issue needs to be resolved, and the issue of public transport revenues must also be resolved. There are clear commitments made by the Municipal Council and Mayor Vasil Terziev that must be fulfilled. The status of transport workers should be at a higher level in order to guarantee quality transport for citizens.

This is what former Minister of Transport Petar Mutafchiev said in the studio of "Denyat ON AIR".

In his words, both additional investments and renewal of the vehicle fleet should be sought.

"We are very far from what transport should be both in terms of quality and regularity. Obviously there is a problem with funding. Clearly, it's also about the people who work there. And they deserve high salaries", commented diplomat Chavdar Minchev on Bulgaria ON AIR.

Mutafchiev explained that they sent a letter to President Rumen Radev and Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, in which they indicate measures by which traffic on the border between Bulgaria and Romania will be eased.

"They will ease transport companies, business in Romania and Bulgaria, of course, and tourism. Both countries are moving towards Schengen as a package, but we all know that there are many problems. What prevents the two countries from opening the border, preparing all that needs to be done for Schengen, and making it easier for everyone who travels between the two countries," he added.

The guest is of the opinion that projects can be made along the Danube River that will be in the interest of both countries.

"The business loses from downtime, loses from the bigger fuel, loses from a lot of deliveries, penalties. We can give a clear political signal", emphasized the former minister of transport.

Minchev agreed with his words.

"The biggest interest for Bulgaria and Romania to enter Schengen is the Schengen member countries themselves, since we, as an external border, solve extremely serious problems for the community. There is nowhere to go - we will become Schengen members. We shouldn't be overly optimistic either, because the new commission has not taken office yet," the diplomat believes.
