ITN: If "Marits" are closed, Bulgaria may have to switch to electricity mode in winter - 1

“If "Maritsa" are closed, Bulgaria may have to switch to electricity mode during the student winter months”, warned the candidates for deputies from "Ima such a people" Toshko Yordanov, Dragomir Petrov, Pavela Mitova, Stanislav Balabanov and Alexander Valchev.

They toured the Mariska Basin and spoke out against the final shutdown of coal-fired power generation by 2038 and the closure of the reactors. There is now a huge photovoltaic park by the Marishka Basin.

"If we listen to GERB and PP-DB, these are jobs here. "How many miners and energy workers do you see working here?" Toshko Yordanov asked. "I see about 30,000, but they have hid,", Alexander Valchev jokingly answered him, surveying the deserted meadow, reports “24 Hours”.

Pavela Mitova recalled that their parliamentary group also fought for this on the last working day of the 50th National Assembly before the vacation for the election campaign. "This is what we fought for in the past two years, because this is not something that happened today or yesterday, but is an incredibly long plan of PP, GERB and DPS to close the entire Marishki complex, to stop working, to become a net importer of electricity, 30 thousand people and their families to lose their jobs, and every single Bulgarian citizen to feel the effect of this in their electricity bills", explained Mitova.

According to the plans of the Ministry of Energy, the transformation of coal plants should be smooth, therefore, in parallel, the necessary amount of coal for the operation of the plants will be produced and the grounds will be restored to prepare them for future economic activities, which will be managed by new company.

"The new reclamation company to be set up will have a union board of directors, ie the union bosses will go on nice salaries like the bosses of an energy company and no one cares what will the workers do after that," explained Mitova. She pointed out another problem - that no one says what will happen to the land after the reclamation. "She will go to this company, and what will happen to her will be decided by the union leaders," Mitova also pointed out.

"These are the balancing powers, and we lose another of our balancing powers by closing the channels. This means that these photovoltaics cannot produce energy when there is no sun or when there is snow," Mitova explained, and Valchev added: "Maritse" hold a constant frequency, which is important not only for our transmission system, but also for the Balkans in general".

"If they close, many people and experts say that in the worst winter months we may be in power mode, because there is nowhere to maintain the level of our electricity network," added Balabanov.

Currently PAVETS "Chaira" is not working, the sixth unit of the Kozloduy NPP is in constant unscheduled repairs. And about 30% of the energy produced in Bulgaria is produced in the Mariska Basin. The carbon footprint is 0.02% of European emissions.

ITN is also against liberalization of the electricity market, as it would lead to 3-4 times higher electricity bills.
