The director Theo Ushev was this evening in front of the National Theater "Ivan Vazov" to watch the production “The weapons and the man“.
"I was happy that on my last day in Bulgaria I could watch a production of the great John Malkovich," he wrote on his Facebook profile and told what happened that evening there.
Here is what he wrote:
"At 18:30 I went to the theater. There were people waving flags. There were no more than 400 people. Approaching the entrance, I was warned that there would be security. I asked the policeman - how can I enter the theater. He sarcastically told me - you will wait a little, these people are also waiting. It turned out that these "people" they want to enter the theater, cause trouble. In seconds, at the command of the Spitz-Führer, we were surrounded by neo-Nazis who started hitting us. Who can with what.
The policeman scolded me for challenging them. Challenged by wanting to see a theater for which I bought a ticket. We tried to get away, the entire frenzied crowd rushed at us. We were kicked, insulted, spat on, doused with various liquids, hit with flag handles.
The police were telling us to leave. We left, the crowd chasing us. The police rather fluttered around us.
Stones, objects, whatever fell on the "proud Bulgarians" who were surrounding us, already towards the Union of Composers, were flying towards us.
The faces of these people cannot be described. They must be drawn.
Finally, a policeman, after we had eaten paint, explained to me that there would be no show.
The police once again played a decorative role. She had allowed the disliked Bernard Shaw and Malkovich "patriots" to almost enter the theater.
What is happening today in Sofia is equivalent to Kristallnacht. And as then, so now, the police stand by, tolerate and protect these advanced fascists."
