A 37-year-old man stabbed five people in broad daylight in Seattle in Friday, reported the Associated Press, quoted by BTA.
The same attacker is believed to have injured four others the day before. The man made his first court appearance Saturday, where a judge ordered him held on $2 million bail.
"People who live in and travel to Chinatown and the International District deserve to feel safe and secure,” King County District Attorney Lisa Mannion said after a judge found there was good cause to detain him .
When setting the high bail amount, the judge noted that an arrest warrant had been issued for the man. According to the probable cause report, he also has nine felony convictions in Washington state, which include four counts of auto theft, possession of stolen property, robbery and attempted burglary.
The case is still under investigation and has not been turned over to the King County Prosecutor's Office for a decision on whether to file charges, spokeswoman Casey McNertney said Saturday. According to him, they expect to receive the case by Thursday.
Four of the five victims were taken to Harborview Medical Center. on Friday. One man, who had been in critical condition, has deteriorated, and two others in the intensive care unit remain in serious condition, hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg said Saturday.
Police said they found two knives stained with what appeared to be blood in the parking lot where the man was arrested. The third knife was stuck in the back of one of the victims when she was taken to the hospital, court documents said.
Seattle police said they believe the man was involved in at least four other stabbings in the same area on Thursday. He fit the description of the suspect, and the attacks were also random, just like Friday's. Police are still investigating the case and more charges may be added, they said.
