A protest was organized in Velingrad today in front of plague-affected farms. The state is ready to compensate the owner of the animals that need to be euthanized, but is also ready to negotiate with the farmers, said the Minister of Agriculture, Georgi Tahov.
"I suggest that the animals be euthanized immediately, which is accompanied by the corresponding compensatory payments, or that the samples be sent again to Montpellier. This is done really to clear any doubts - not to make it our result today against their result in Greece. "We are 100% convinced - the animals are sick," said Agriculture Minister Georgi Tahov, quoted by BNR, with whom yesterday the owner of the quarantined elite herds in the area, Dimitar Iliev, requested another meeting.
To BNR correspondent Nevena Petrova, the farmer said that there is a discrepancy between the repeated results from the Bulgarian laboratories and those made in Greece.
"Results from Greece show negative samples. They come from a licensed laboratory. We have not been contacted by the institutions. It's a mental strain. We can't stand it. We want transparency and the truth to come out," commented Iliev.
The destruction of the smallpox-infected flock of nearly 150 sheep in the Sliven village of Zhelyu voivoda also began yesterday.
