The crisis with the election of the Speaker of the National Assembly can be solved if common sense emerges to make decisions in the interest of the common good and not in the interest of individual parties. This is what he said in the show "Face to Face" on BTV the diplomat and former Deputy Prime Minister Rumiana Bachvarova.
With the proposal for Atanas Atanasov to be the speaker of the parliament, it seemed that talks were going on, there was a prospect of agreement, but today, looking at the statements of the individual parties, I think there are three insurmountable obstacles to a positive outcome. First, GERB insists that Borissov be prime minister, while the other political formations reject this. The second is the firm insistence of "We continue the change" for signing the declaration on a sanitary cordon, and thirdly, if these two conditions fall away, there remains a big question mark as to who will be the other parties that will support such a union, Bachvarova said.
The possible options are not that many. I don't know how BSP would react if GERB voted for Atanasov and not for Kiselova, whom they supported at the last session of the National Assembly. From "There is such a people" they have already said that they do not accept Atanasova. i.e. two of the key players who could support him are out, and it's not clear who could be next, she added.
In response to a question whether only the leader of the "DPS – A new beginning": Delyan Peevski is an obstacle to reaching an agreement between GERB – SDF and "We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria", the former deputy prime minister pointed out: "I think that many unresolved personal relationships. Everyone is trying to outplay others and show themselves as the winner. These trends have acquired such negative dimensions that there is no opportunity to stand aside and soberly assess what is happening. As long as the relationship is personal and not principled, I don't think there will be a good answer. The question is in the principles, in the name of what one or the other proposal is made by one side or the other. Will there be a cordon sanitaire when there is a government, and how would a government function after these obstacles are removed? There are many unexplained questions, no one talks about policies, and least of all there is talk of principles and values.
She also announced what she thinks is the way out of the political crisis.
With the third mandate, which is non-partisan, a technical government must be made, in which the first two parties and the party that received the third mandate will participate, ministers with certain mandates should be proposed and a government made that will be equidistant from the other parties, which would take on a national program to get us out of this situation. After that, it should be seen how the Electoral Law and the rules for electing the Speaker of the National Assembly can be changed. It is a matter of desire to make it happen. The current politicians must take a step back so as not to interfere, for people from the second and third level to come forward and take over the baton in the name of our country, noted Rumiana Bachvarova.
According to her, reaching agreement on such a cabinet may also be key to electing the Speaker of the Parliament.
We are missing out on extremely good opportunities, such as the Recovery Plan money. We have to start pushing ourselves off the bottom because we look very bad from the outside. This third mandate should be implemented by a grouping of prominent personalities from the three parties and the decisions should be made jointly by the representatives of these three political forces, Bachvarova also said.
