"There is a process of collapse of Bulgarian democracy, of the collapse of citizens' trust in the political elite, and this is very more dangerous than not getting a few billions from the European funds, because in the long term this destroys the state and risks bringing into the country a new savior who can already be extremely extreme and radical. This already looks like a very systemic problem for Bulgarian democracy and the Bulgarian state".
This is what sociologist Dobromir Zhivkov from the "Market Links" agency told BNR. and commented:
"Democracy in Bulgaria is in a serious crisis according to a number of indicators, which also lead to a crisis of statehood. This means that we are still at the stage of fighting to achieve a change of the model, which we had for 15 years as the ruler of the country, against which there was serious social tension in 2020, against which over 2/3 of the citizens believe that active action should be taken. Namely - to stop corruption at the highest levels of power, to restore justice in society, to have an equal start for everyone, and then to come all the other things that are missing - respect for institutions and a number of other things, reaching education and health care, etc. The second major line is the East-West geopolitical line. We see that the political representation has a serious disagreement in this regard".
According to him, there are no options for unlocking the situation with the election of the Speaker of the 51st National Assembly.
"It depends on GERB where things should develop, and apparently they are not ready to take responsibility either in one direction or the other (neither with Peevski, nor to sign the declaration of PP-DB on a sanitary cordon )".
