The water problems in Shumen have been going on for years and it is not clear how they are getting worse. In recent years, water losses have increased to 80 percent.

„This phenomenon is inexplicable and has been going on for more than 15 years, since the first major investments in the water supply sector in Shumen began.“

This was stated by the journalist Diana Zhelyazkova in the program “EuroDikoff”.

„This was back in 2007 with the first ISPA pre-accession funds in the VIC sector in Shumen, 100 million were buried, twice under the ISPA program.“

„And then, before these first investments started, the water loss in Shumen was about 67 percent.“

By 2014, the water loss had inexplicably jumped to 80 percent.

According to Zhelyazkova, there are huge losses of water, but they include etc. nar commercial losses, which means that someone draws water without paying for it.

“There were serious doubts that large industrial users, not only in Shumen, but also in Targovishte, consume water without accounting for it. But until now, no one has explained to us where this water is wasted.”, commented Zhelyazkova.
