„I think that Bashar Assad's regime in Syria has fallen, but what is to come is important”. This was stated on the air of “Wake up” the former Deputy Minister of Defense Yordan Bozhilov. According to the national security expert, it is important whether the country will take a course towards unification or whether there is a political transition.
„Assad's regime, ever since his father seized power, has been extremely repressive. Hundreds of thousands of people are imprisoned, and tens of thousands – killed. Therefore, this regime had no legitimacy in the country. From this chapter the majority of the population is united against him. The key is whether the country will be able to move to a peace process and an elected legitimate government. The composition in Syria is very complex both from a religious point of view and from an ethnic point of view”, noted Bozhilov.
We remind you that information has emerged that Bashar Assad has escaped from Damascus. This was reported by the "Reuters" agency, citing two officers of the Syrian army. The president boarded a plane and left in an unknown direction. Gunfire is heard in the streets of the city. Some say that Assad has gone to Russia, others – for Iran.
The former deputy minister expects a serious improvement in the situation in the region and a reduction in the influence of Russia and Iran.
