Today, a protest of "We continue the change" will be held in front of the Sofia City Court in support of the arrested Lachezar Stavrev, who is a former expert in the Ministry of Finance during the time of Asen Vassilev, Bulgaria ON AIR reported.
"Our colleague Lachezar Stavrev was detained by the Peev Prosecutor's Office on trumped-up charges", the PP said.
"The formal reason for his arrest is "testimony" of the former head of customs, given under pressure after almost 7 months in custody," they also stated.
"Lacho has a healthy family, a clean criminal record, and he does not have any official capacity in which he could do anything wrong. His permanent detention will be pure repression," the party pointed out.
According to them, Stavrev's detention is not accidental.
"This is happening at a time when we from "Continuing Change-Democratic Bulgaria" proposed changes to the Judiciary Act, so as to stop Acting Prosecutor Sarafov from being cemented as the head of the prosecution for 7 years by the Supreme Judicial Council with an expired mandate," the PP pointed out.
"Their goal is, after Kiril Petkov's request for immunity, to also hit our other co-chairman, Asen Vassilev. The repression against our colleague will not stop us," the party is categorical.
"On 14.12.2024, Saturday, the measure of detention of Lacho will be reviewed. "As a sign of protest, we will gather on Saturday, at 9:30 a.m., in front of the Sofia City Court, to support Lacho," the PP also announced.
