Yesterday, the Regional Directorate for Food Safety (RDFS) committed a barbaric and inhumane act in the territory of the Yambol region, in the land of the village of Kabile. Without warning and without conducting the necessary examinations, an entire herd of 85 sheep, most of which were pregnant, was cruelly killed. The reason for the BFSA's actions is the lack of registration of the site. But instead of imposing an administrative sanction, as provided by the law, the institution resorted to the most drastic possible act - complete destruction. Such a position was spread to the media by "Vazrajdane".
Here is what else they wrote:
"This is unacceptable! We at "Vazrazhdane" have repeatedly stated that state institutions should support small and medium-sized farmers and livestock breeders, not destroy them. The actions of the Bulgarian Food and Agriculture Organization in this case are an example of arrogance, lack of humanity and inability to protect the Bulgarian producer. Instead of being a partner and protector of livestock breeding, the Bulgarian Food and Agriculture Organization is becoming an executioner. From "Vazrazhdane" we will continue to fight for justice and protection of the rights of Bulgarian farmers and livestock breeders.
This barbaric act cannot remain without consequences. We insist that the employee who signed the order to destroy the herd be immediately removed from office. MP Nikola Dimitrov contacted the injured livestock breeder, to whom the third political force will provide legal assistance. Such decisions, such as that of the Bulgarian Food and Agriculture Organization, destroy trust not only in the institution, but also in the state as a whole. Because of these actions, the Bulgarian Animal Health Agency has long lost public trust, and such cases are the reason for the patience of livestock breeders and farmers to overflow.
We will ask questions to the Minister of Agriculture and Food and insist on answers: Why resort to extreme measures when there are lighter administrative sanctions?; Have the necessary studies been carried out before the destruction of the herd?; What are the actions of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food to protect small and medium-sized livestock breeders?
We believe that such cases should receive a wide public response, because they are indicative of the indifference of the institutions to those who take care of Bulgarian production every day. If measures are not taken, such actions will lead to total disbelief and collapse in the sector".
