Finance expert and member of the Fiscal Council Lyubomir Datsov opposed the proposal to increase the income of police officers and military personnel in the country. According to him, their salaries are not low at all, as they claim in the public space.

“The average salary in these two structures is much higher. If we look at the salaries in the two sectors compared to other countries, we will be No. 1 in all of Europe in terms of expenses“, Datsov explained on the air of NOVA NEWS.

The expert noted that the salary will never be enough and a person “will always want to receive more“. According to him, the more important issue is how these funds are distributed in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and in defense.

There is no point in having police officers and military personnel who are not trained and cannot do their jobs, believes Datsov.

Regarding the so-called extension law on the budget, the financier explained that it essentially allows payments to be made based on the 2024 budget until the adoption of the 2025 state budget. In this way, the minimum wage and people's pensions will be ensured.

Lyubomir Datsov reminded that to date, Bulgaria still does not meet the price stability criterion for entering the eurozone. And he specified that this must be a policy of sustainability. He also noted that we continue to have a problem with the budget deficit.

If we introduce the budget and it is adopted in this form, the problems will be twice as big next year, 2026. If there is no regular government now that will cut half of the measures in order to control the situation, in the next 3-4 years we will have to save a lot. I hope there will be a regular government, but one that will make responsible decisions, concluded Datsov.

When asked how price stability can be imposed, Datsov replied that this is done with structural reforms that will make the Bulgarian economy more competitive and more productive.

In conclusion, the financial specialist warned that if the deputies adopt the 2025 Budget in its current form, in 2026 the problems will be “twice as big“.
