The processing of road surfaces in winter conditions continues, and 321 snow-clearing machines are processing the surfaces of the republican road network in areas with snowfall to ensure safe travel. This was announced by the press center of the "Road Infrastructure" Agency (API). They advise drivers to travel carefully, with a car prepared for winter conditions. Drivers are urged to drive at a reasonable speed and not to undertake risky maneuvers, as well as overtaking snow removal equipment, the RIA also appeals.
The blocking of traffic by vehicles that are not prepared for winter conditions makes it difficult for all other drivers to travel and the work of snow removal equipment, the department commented.
Snow is falling in the districts of Gabrovo, Kyustendil, Lovech, Montana, Pernik, Ruse, Sofia and Stara Zagora, as well as on the Troyanski, Shipka, Petrohan and Republic Pass passes.
The teams of road maintenance companies are taking the necessary actions to process the routes – motorways, the busiest routes on the first-class and second-class road network and the passages providing connections between Northern and Southern Bulgaria.
To increase traffic safety and if necessary, it is possible to close individual sections of the routes for processing with inert materials. Where necessary due to strong winds, snow drifts or poor visibility, traffic may be temporarily limited until weather conditions improve and the road is cleaned.
All citizens and transport companies can receive information about the current road situation and winter maintenance of the republican network from the API website - www.api.bg, as well as at any time of the day by calling 0700 130 20 at API. The agency has a Situation Center operating 24/7, collecting and summarizing data on the state of the republican roads.
A yellow code for heavy snowfall has been declared for ten districts tomorrow, according to the weather forecast published on the website of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH). The warning is in effect for the districts of Haskovo, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Kardzhali, Smolyan, Blagoevgrad, Sofia region, Sofia city, Kyustendil and Pernik. The new snow cover is expected to reach between 10 and 20 cm.
