Bulgarian sailors Lyubomir Chanev and Danail Veselinov from the ship "Galaxy Leader" captured by the Yemeni Houthis arrived at Sofia Airport on the government plane sent by order of the Prime Minister Mr. Rosen Zhelyazkov. A Romanian sailor also arrived with the Bulgarians, a reporter for Novini.bg reported.
They were together with the delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev. MEP Elena Yoncheva was also on the plane.
The sailors were greeted by their relatives with tears in their eyes, who hugged them for the first time in more than a year.
The Yemeni Houthis released the ship's crew after 14 months in captivity.
The ship "Galaxy Leader", with the two Bulgarians on board, was captured in the Red Sea at the end of November 2023. The agreement between Israel and Hamas gave the green light to the operation to free them, and its coordination was in the hands of Hamas.
