The District Court in Dupnitsa confirmed a fine of 180,000 leva imposed by the Regional Inspectorate for Environment, Water and Water on the Bobov Dol TPP for harmful gases emitted during the operation of the plant. Thus, the sanctions for the company near Golemo Selo now amount to about 1 million leva, say experts quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio.
During an inspection by the environmental inspection, it was established that the company operated the combustion installation without purification facilities for 370 hours for the calendar year 2023, with an allowable 120 hours per year.
By letter dated 10.04.2024. A representative of the company was invited to draw up an act of administrative violation, but he did not appear. A penal decree was issued, by which the above-mentioned property sanction of 180 thousand leva was imposed on the basis of Article 164, paragraph 1 of the Environmental Protection Act.
The evidence collected in the case established that the company did not fulfill the condition for the procedure and method of measuring emissions of harmful substances released into the atmospheric air by stationary sources.
This violation concerns the health of the population. The fact that the company has been repeatedly sanctioned for failure to comply with the conditions of the Complex Permit and has imposed an amount corresponding to the type and severity of the violation has also been taken into account, the court decision states.
The decision is subject to cassation appeal before the Kyustendil Administrative Court.
In order to avoid such serious situations, the Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant announced that they are starting the construction of a third desulfurization installation at the plant - so each of the three units will have one, while so far one installation has been used for two of the units.
