Election day in the municipality of Dve Mogili, Ruse region, began normally. All 15 polling stations opened on time. Five of them are in the town of Dve Mogili, and the rest are in the villages. There are no missing members of the sectional election commissions. This was reported to BTA by the chairwoman of the Municipal Election Commission (MEC) in Dve Mogili, Anelia Petrova.
Dragomir Draganov from the SDS and Marieta Petrova, nominated by the Initiative Committee, are running in the runoff. In the first round a week ago, none of the four candidates received more than 50% of the votes. The voter turnout was 42.86% - lower than in the first round of the local elections on October 29, 2023, when 56.11% of voters voted.
Anelia Petrova noted that between the two rounds of voting, the Municipal Election Commission considered one complaint and one signal. The complaint filed by one of the candidates was about pasted posters that are in violation of Article 183, paragraph 4 of the Electoral Code, i.e. related to harming good morals and the good name of the candidate. The mayor of Dve Mogili was instructed to remove these campaign materials and posters. The decision has also been sent to the Regional Police Department to identify the offender, Petrova also said.
She added that a signal filed by a citizen, in one part duplicates the complaint of one candidate for mayor of the Dve Mogili municipality, and in the other is about a video clip against the other candidate, which is being distributed on social networks. In its second part, the signal was disregarded, since the MEC and the Central Election Commission are not regulators of social networks. According to the Election Code, these are not providers of election services, Petrova said.
Over the past week, four members of sectional election commissions have been replaced at the suggestion of the parties and initiative committees that nominated them.
The by-elections came about after Bozhidar Borisov, elected mayor of Dve Mogili for a third term in the 2023 election, died suddenly on December 23 last year.
