Hampartzumyan: Every day a millionaire appears in Bulgaria - 1

"Every day a person appears in Bulgaria with a deposit of over one million leva. By the end of March, the number of these depositors reached 1,895 people. They are 377 more compared to the same period last year. The growth is 24.8%, according to BNB data. The whole country is getting richer, our economy is growing." This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by banker Levon Hampartzumyan, former Deputy Minister of Economy.

He explained that inflation also affects the economy, which increases the money supply. The banker said that about 60% of the Bulgarian economy is in private hands.

"Not all of them are spenders of European funds. These are enterprising people who work, produce, and sell abroad. We should not be surprised. However, the Bulgarian environment for doing business is difficult," he commented.

According to him, in recent years Bulgaria has started to export capital net. "It's good to have a 10% tax, but if you fall under the sights of the "dwarves", your tax becomes 100%. This does not attract much investment," explained Hampartzumyan.

According to him, the business environment needs to become attractive.

"There are successful countries with high taxes. Predictability is required," the economist pointed out. As an example of unpredictability, he cited the paralysis of the economy in Sofia due to the transport crisis in recent days. Levon Hampartzumyan is of the opinion that we should not look for a connection between the increasing millionaire deposits of individuals, as well as the growth of loans for millions granted to citizens, with the upcoming entry into the eurozone.

"If there should have been a referendum on the euro, it should have been held when we signed the treaties," he also said on the air of the national radio.
