Over 50,000 high school graduates will take the state matriculation exam in Bulgarian language and literature tomorrow. The matriculation exam includes a test and writing an essay or composition. 12,000 invigilators will monitor its normal course. The exam topic will be drawn tomorrow morning at 5:45 a.m. at the Ministry of Education.
♦ The exam starts at 8:30 a.m., and students must be in their seats no later than 8:00 a.m.
♦ Admission to the building occurs upon presentation of an identity document - an ID card, passport or driver's license.
♦ Students must bring the official note for admission to the exam.
♦ They must carry and write with a black pen.
♦ Electronic devices must be turned off.
Kastreva indicated that the exam is conducted under constant video surveillance.
The BEL Matura
♦ The exam lasts 4 astronomical hours and contains 41 questions.
♦ Contains material from grades 11 and 12.
♦ It is divided into modules.
♦ The first part is 60 minutes, during which students cannot leave.
♦ Each module is placed in the final in the corresponding envelope.
Kastreva added that the exam version is generated early in the morning before the start of the matriculation exams from a database with almost 6 million combinations.
When will the results be out?
♦ The exam results will be ready by June 11.
„I wish success to all the matriculation students. The most important thing is that they arrive on time. Otherwise, they should be prepared”, said the Minister of Education Krasimir Valchev.
„Admission to the building is by presenting an identity document, students should carry their official note. All electronic devices must be kept away from them. They are not allowed to use them. But they do have the right to show what they know and what they can do. This is a time for which they have been preparing, and I believe that they will successfully overcome this last step in their secondary education”, emphasized the head of the RUE – Sofia-city Vanya Kastreva.
According to Asen Aleksandrov - director of 51 SU “Elisaveta Bagryana” in Sofia, the Ministry of Education and Science has never leaked the answers to the matriculation exams. “When there are 50,000 students and 15,000 examiners, it is quite possible that somehow an hour after the start of the exam a question will come out. But after that there are many things that have to happen. So the chance is one in very few and it is not good to take risks”, he pointed out in the “Interview in NOVA News”.
According to him, over the years the matriculation exams have become more and more different. The goal was to assess the students' life skills, how they extract information, and to test their original way of thinking and expressing themselves. “Someone with a crammed mentality won't be able to cope”, Aleksandrov pointed out.
He refuted the thesis that students know less every year. His expectations are that the results of the matriculation exams will be similar to last year's.
