If corruption becomes a systemic problem and I cannot solve it, I will resign. This was stated by Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev on NOVA NEWS, quoted by dariknews.bg.
„I had the right not to accept any of the proposals of „We Continue the Change”, „Democratic Bulgaria” or „Save Sofia” for deputy mayors. Our agreement was that all three formations would have certain areas in which to nominate people”, he added. Nikola Barbutov was proposed by the entire PP party, but both Kiril Petkov and Lena Borislavova had spoken to the mayor on this topic.
According to him, after the departure of Iliyan Pavlov as deputy mayor for transport (from “Save Sofia”) and Nikola Barbutov (from “Continue the Change”), all his other deputies were personal appointments of Terziev.
“I did not expect such a thing from Mr. Barbutov and I was both surprised and disappointed”, admitted the mayor. Terziev explained that he immediately took measures because he did not show any tolerance for corruption. The detained former deputy mayor was responsible for hundreds of millions of European funds. An inspection of the public procurement contracts he concluded has been ordered.
“When there was something suspicious, we have always reacted. There is no small and big corruption, there is no "ours" and "yours", the mayor of Sofia was categorical. He stressed that his name had also been used illegally. Terziev called on business people to tell him when someone is putting pressure on them, especially using his name.
