The corruption scandal in "We continue the change" became possible because the party threw only crumbs at the deputy mayors, which made them emancipate themselves. This was commented on by the famous political observer Emil Dimitrov - Revizoro to Nova TV.
"This scheme, which we saw with the deputy mayors of the PP, happens very often. When you throw only crumbs at them, they emancipate themselves. With the PP, the scheme did not work, because they threw only 3% to the mayors, as much as God forbid," Revizoro explained the mechanism of corruption.
According to media expert Associate Professor Georgi Lozanov from Sofia University, there is a trend towards the destruction of liberal democracy in Bulgaria. "It is not the first time I have said that there is a trend towards the destruction of liberal democracy in our country. And we see it in relation to 'Continuing the change'. The desire to eliminate the democratic right is not only in our country, it also coincides with geopolitics," he said.
Lozanov stressed that a punitive action is being taken, not a real attempt to deal with corruption. "When the idea of this problem is reduced to this hypothetical possibility of 6%, it is clear that this is more of a punitive action than a really motivated attempt to deal with corruption," the expert commented.
Revisoro recalled how the PP started with ambitious plans to fight corruption. "PP came with big ideas to fight corruption, they started rattling several governments and at one point it turned out that 10% is corruption, and 6% is not, and 3% is zero tolerance," he said.
According to Lozanov, Kiril Petkov's resignation is the second loss for the democratic right. "Kiril Petkov is the second leader of the democratic right to resign. The first was Hristo Ivanov. Now this scandal is again causing damage to the right, and politics is ultimately a game of image," the expert pointed out.
At the same time, Lozanov noted the positive sides of the liberal parties. "In liberal parties, there is no fear of speaking out against the party, because there is no cult of the leader, the leader even resigns there. This resignation is a sign that politicians must bear responsibility for the problem," he added.
The scandal in the PP began on June 24, when former Sofia deputy mayor Nikola Barbutov was arrested on charges of corruption and participation in an organized crime group, according to BTA. This led to the resignation of Kiril Petkov as co-chair of the party two days later.
