GERB-SDS, BSP-OL and ITN have signed the insane law for a threefold increase in student fees, paid tuition. Let it be clear who is killing Bulgarian higher education, wrote Cornelia Ninova on Facebook.
"The student protests are fair and we must all support them if we want to have an educated and progressive young generation. I graduated from the Faculty of Law of Sofia University and I stand behind every word of the call of my colleagues, future lawyers. A lot of people write and call me asking what we at Nepokorna Bulgaria are proposing as a solution," she also writes.
"I know what needs to be done in 2 steps:
This absurd law on pricing student fees should be repealed.
The real solution is to change the funding model for schools and universities. “Money follows the student" is a totally wrong concept that starts with secondary education and then continues.", explains Ninova.
"Because of this model, in order to preserve their budget, educational institutions keep numbers. In some schools, they keep children who don't go to class. They write them A's without being able to read, just so they can move to the next grade in order to keep the subsidy. In universities, the state determines the cost of living per number. This is where the whole problem comes from, but no one dares to really delve into it and make a cardinal change in the vicious model.
As a deputy, I proposed it, but various interests prevented it from being adopted. Education should not be about numbers and quantity, but content and quality," Ninova concludes her post.
