Ivaylo Mirchev: We expect attacks on Vasil Terziev - 1

We expect attacks on Vasil Terziev. This was stated in the studio of "The Day Begins" on BNT by Ivaylo Mirchev, co-chairman of "Yes, Bulgaria" and MP from "We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria" . According to him, he personally saw a list of 88 PP-DB mayors in the anti-corruption commission who could be attacked.

"Vasil Terziev asked for the bank that serves the capital to be changed. We are talking about 3 billion leva. Why did he ask? Because it is normal for the capital, especially when it is about 3 billion, to be served by one of the large banks or several of the large banks. And naturally, Sofia Municipality asked for an offer from the 5 largest banks in Bulgaria. Quite normal European practice. The current bank that serves Sofia has all sorts of indications that part of the ownership is connected to businessmen close to Peevski. At least according to media publications. Which automatically, the moment Vasil Terziev requests this from the Sofia Municipal Council, we will also see the vote there, but this will create tension. Then, when Peevski controls the Commission for Combating Corruption, the only thing we can expect is attacks on Vasil Terziev."

Mirchev emphasized that the Commission for Combating Corruption has turned into a bludgeon.

„The Commission for Combating Corruption has turned into a body for attacks on opposition politicians - mayors, councilors, deputies, former ministers. Any institution, if it is controlled by... as in this case by Peevski and his cronies Borisov, can be turned into such a bat.

Even at the beginning, when these problems were proposed, someone had the best intentions for what would happen. Because in Bulgaria there is a problem with corruption, that is undeniable. There is a point to such an institution in principle. But let's remind ourselves of the difference with Romania. In Romania, there are two prime ministers, there are two governments in prison. There are over 500 senior officials in prison. Because there, such an institution was not controlled by criminal elements, but worked in the interest of the state. In Bulgaria, this does not happen. In Bulgaria, this institution currently works in the interest of two people - mainly Delyan Peevski and Boyko Borisov."

The MP is categorical that the PP and DB will not split, despite the tremors and "difficult conversations on various topics" inside the coalition.

"We have our tough conversations on various topics inside anyway, but Borisov and Peevski's hopes that we will be divided must be dashed very quickly. It will not happen."

Mirchev noted that the protests are not only against the arrest of Blagomir Kotsev.

"We are protesting that everyone is innocent until proven guilty and we want one law for all. Rule of law and justice. We are not protesting to defend a mayor or other councilors or in the Sofia case. I do not know that anything has died down there. There was a resignation of Kiril Petkov in relation to the Sofia case. He must be further investigated so that the whole truth is clear. In addition, at four coalition councils we have asked "Continuing Change" to take clear, categorical measures regarding both the Sofia and Varna cases."

"The question is how it is possible to have a country in which a body - the Anti-Corruption Commission - sets itself the goal of attacking only opposition mayors and councilors. I am not saying here that our mayors and councilors, whom we have nominated, should not be investigated. On the contrary. Everyone should be investigated and we all should know, regardless of whether we are ministers, deputies, mayors or councilors, that we do not have the right to sit at the same table, at a meeting with people who participate in public procurement and to comment on public procurement. We do not have this right."
