A serious discussion is needed about the model and place of the Bulgarian prosecutor's office. This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by Mihail Mikov, former chairman of the National Assembly, former leader of the BSP.
"Prosecutors must obey only the law when doing their job. And this is the big problem, but it is not solved by replacing one or another prosecutor general, nor by protests on the street".
The protests against the justice system are evidence of a political clash, outside the stage of the National Assembly, Mikov believes. However, he does not expect them to lead to serious developments.
Mihail Mikov explained in the program "Predi visi" that before the Varna mayor, there were other mayors who went through an investigation procedure.
"But there was no such noise there. Varna is a big city. The mayor is a political figure. Today's protests are also an expression of this political opposition".
Delyan Peevski, on the other hand, is an expression of the situation in the country, explained the former leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party.
"There is no reason to be surprised by his growing influence. The process of development of Bulgarian society leads to a high concentration of economic opportunities. The left is almost not represented in parliament, and the right is overrepresented. The left is subordinate to these right-wing parties representing capital, and this is reflected in characters with great power".
Every prime minister is a hostage of the majority that supports him, the former speaker of the National Assembly also believes.
Mikov also commented on the BSP's support for GERB's candidacy for ombudsman, given that Maya Manolova, who was also among the candidates for the post, is a coalition partner of the reds.
"The BSP did not only betray its coalition partner, but also its ideas, its history and the expectations of a large part of Bulgarian citizens for authentic left-wing representation".
